The buckled letters forming the cryptic text in Failed Attempts are A.I-generated CAPTCHA puzzles from numerous attempts to log into Wikipedia, after forgetting my password. After a while, I gave up trying and began noticing the mysterious words that the CAPTCHA service was autogenerating instead. One of the text fragments that Wikipedia’s A.I. model asked me to decipher to gain access was democary - a mispelling of the word Democracy (from Greek; Demos: The People and Kratia: Power / Rule).

In Failed Attempt#1 (democary) the Wikipedia CAPTCHA has been enlarged and materialised again in natural black desert sand, collected from different desert dunes around the world. The sand is carefully funnelled through a stencil directly on the floor of a public space. The large-scale dimension of the sand-CAPTCHA occupies the attention of the passersby.

As an integral part of the work, the sand text will be subjected to a gradual deformation and entropic disappearance during the exhibition period, as a result of small accidents and deliberate touches by the viewers. The inevitable dispersal of the sculpted text across the space symbolically hints at the ephemeral changing of language and values in our natural and media environments.
